Merapi Volcano erupts and emits dangerous hot clouds.

Liputan6.com, Yogyakarta - The Merapi Volcano in Central Java erupted on Saturday afternoon (11/3/2023). Civilians around the area have been ordered to evacuate as the volcano is emitting hot clouds and ash rains.

The head of the investigative and technological development office of geological disaster (BPPTKG) in Yogyakarta, Agus Budi Santoso, noted at least 19 volcanic earthquakes during the eruption. He urged the civilians to evacuate.

The geological disaster office in Indonesia said the eruption started at midday, around 12:12. The hot clouds are seen going toward Bebeng and Krasak rivers.

"Civilians are called to stay away from the dangerous area within 7 kilometers of Mount Merapi's peak along the route of Bebeng and Krasak rivers," said the government agency.

Meanwhile, volcanic ashes were reported falling in the Ketep Pass area which is a tourist destination. Ketap is located in the northwestern side of Mount Merapi

In February, Merapi also emitted hot clouds which triggered ash rains in two villages at Boyolali

So far, there are no reports of casualties because of this Merapi eruption.
