Shanghai Hongqiao Station Operates Daily Amidst Sea of People

Shanghai Hongqiao station has been integrated to a number of mode of transportations including China Highspeed Railway.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Hongqiao station in Shanghai is unlike any other ordinary station in the world. It is not only viewed as a transit or layover location for people to continue their journey to other parts of China, it has become the main transportation platform and the biggest among all in China.

The transportation center, covering an area of 1.6 millions square meters integrated mode of transportations system such as China Highspeed Railway (CRH), subway, city bus, taxi and also makes it easier for those who wish to get to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on time. Almost every mode of transportation has been integrated to the platform’s system and has a lane that connects to the station, except ships.

Hongqiao station has as many as 30 railway platforms and 30 lanes for the Highspeed railway. The main building of the station, with its size 420 x 200 and height spanning to 70 meters as well as waiting room stretched out to 10 thousand meters per square could effectively facilitate up to 10 thousand people.

The ceiling of the station is decorated with a 61.000 meter per square solar panel, making it the biggest photovoltaic project in the world.

Due to its considerably large size, many have resorted to seeing it as an airport.

"At first, we were worried over the fact that the place is too big in size," Deputy Chief Engineer of China Railway, Zhao Guotang told Liputan6.com.

"Apparently though, the number of passengers and people who use the facility continues to grow in numbers," he added.

The Deputy Director of Hongqiao station, Feng Liang explains that there are at least 212 electric multiple unit (EMU) that travels back and forth into the station.
