JK: Parliamentary System is the Reason for RI Government Downfall

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Vice President Jusuf Kalla is convinced that the government under him and President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will last until the next five years despite many of the problems that continue to badger them. He is assured with this notion as he thinks that he has not seen any potential economic and political crisis which occur at the same time.

"Almost all of the former Presidents descended from their posts due to the occurrences of both economic and political crisis at the same time. Former President Sukarno fell due to the increased of fuel and rice, the political situation was also unpromising. President Soeharto fell also due to similar cases. The government usually fell due to damaged political and economy of the nation," JK said during the 47^th National Muktamar Muhammadiyah seminar in Yogyakarta, Saturday (07/03/2015). 

According to Jusuf Kalla, the two aspects are very important. However, economic crisis requires more attention as compared to political crisis. This is because in addressing the issue of economic conflict or crisis, many considerations have to be made and everything is inter- connected, starting with the food, beverages, businesses, markets, interest, and many more. Whereas for political crisis, they just need a mediator to help both parties to address their issue without wholly affecting other layers of society.

"The most dangerous one is economic crisis because it involves a lot of things, whereas politic is only a matter of differing perspective. Hopefully the government under Jokowi- JK will continue to be saved from such issues," Jusuf Kalla informed. 

He continued sharing how usually the parliamentary system is the reason behind the government downfall. Before former President Gusdur, all of the governments fell due to the parliamentary system. Gus Dur was the first one who did not use it but the government actually failed again. The ones after him continued without having serious problems like the ones faced by the previous presidents.

"Parliamentary system is usually the reason behind the overthrown Indonesian government. Presidential system is much better. Look at it now, it lasts longer and political and economic crisis do not happen at the same time," JK concluded. (Akp/Ein)
