AirAsia QZ8501 Search Mission Expanded to Non-Zone Red Areas

The finding of two bodies outside of the red zone led to the decision of the extension of search mission to other areas.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The search and evacuation mission of [AirAsia](The finding of two bodies outside of the red zone led to the decision of the extension of search mission to other areas. "") QZ 8501 victims has now entered its 11th days. The outcome of the last mission resulted in the finding of two other deceased passengers outside the coordinates of the search mission.

"So today we have collected two more bodies, we found it outside of the red zone," said the head of Basarnas Bambang Soelistyo as he delivers his updates to the press at Basarnas office, Jalan Angkasa, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (06/01/2015).

Bambang explains how the discovery of the last two bodies that were located outside of the red zone leads to the idea to expand their search location. So today, the search area will be extended to the right side, precisely where the last two bodies were found.

"Since we found the last two bodies outside of the red zone, we then need the expansion of search mission as far as to the right, it will be our main priority," he explained.

Bambang said, from the two deceased victims, only 1 body successfully evacuated through air as it sent out to Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan as the weather was not promising. However, Basarnas tried to evacuating the other deceased passenger using thrugh water.

"So due to bad weather, we can only evacuated 1 from the Malaysia aircraft which  has been carried to Pangkalan Bun. The other one found by the Japanese vessel was being evacuated to the KRI Sutedi Putra and will be carried to Teluk Kumai port first then to Pangkalan Bun," Bamband further explains.

Up until the 10th day of search mission, there has already been 39 bodies found and evacuated by the SAR joint team, 37 bodies have been identified of DVI team at the Bhayangkara hospital in East Java with 16 of them have been revealed in identity and returned to their families.

AirAsia en route Surabya- Singapore lost contact with the Air Traffic Controller in Soekarno- Hatta airport on Sunday 28 December 2014 at arounf 06.17 am local time. The aircraft with flight number of QZ8501 left for Singapore from Juanda International Airport , Surabaya at 05.20 am local time. It was expected to land at Changi airport, Singapore at 08.40 am local time.

The airbus A320-200 with the registration of PK-AXC was piloted by Captain Iriyanto and copiloted by Captain Remi Emmanuel Plesel, along with 4 cabin crew, Wanti Setiawati, Kahirunissa Haidar Fauzi, Oscar Desano, Wismoyo Ari Prambudi and 1 technician named Saiful Rakhmad. (Akp/Riz)
