Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The 60th Asia-Africa Conference this upcoming April will be held both in Jakarta and Bandung. Later in this event, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will express Indonesia's support for the independence of Palestine.

Indonesia has for so long stands on the Palestinian side and thus President Jokowi will take a moment during the Asia-Africa Conference to declare Indonesia’s support for an Independent Palestine.

The Managing Committee of the 60th Asia-Africa Conference, Luhut Pandjaitan informed how out of the 109 countries in Asia and Africa who will be present at the event, are not all supporters of Palestine.

With the circumstances given, the Indonesian government will try to encourage other nations to declare Palestine’s independence.

"Our Ministry of Foreign Relations are currently lobbying these nations so that they will be willing to participate themselves in the declaration process," Luhut informed at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (31/3/2015).

Up until now, the draft supporting Palestinian independence is still in progress and currently discussed by the Indonesian representative in New York.

"I am still uncertain about the development of such issue. What I am certain about is that the Indonesian government came up with that notion and President Jokowi promises to declare it," he continued.

‎Luhut said, so far there are already 25 leaders from various Asian and African countries who have confirmed their attendance to the 60th Asia-Africa conference. (Akp/Tnt)
