Liputan6.com, Jakarta - As part of the revolutionary effort to make Jakarta a more desirable place to live, the local government has established a system of electronic card as a substitute for parking payment ticket. The newly- adopted system is applicable for both four-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles.

The first location or pilot project that has applied this parking meter machine is Jalan Agus Salim at Sabang, Central Jakarta.

"Why do we have an electronic machine as well as electronic card for parking payment? Because we want to keep a data of who parks here," Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said during the launching of electronic parking transaction at Cafe Bangi Kopitiam, Jakarta, Thursday (29/01/2015).

Should the first application at Jalan Sabang succeeded, the application on other coordinates using this machine will follow. This will also include the ones inside buildings around Jakarta area.

Basuki or Ahok said that this system is adopted as to prevent any unwanted party or individual from monopolizing the parking money- collection sector around Jakarta area.

"We are naming it the electronic parking ticket machine. So now, there will be no more money going into the pockets of individuals who claim to have been the one in charge of the parking area. Even in buildings, we will have the system established. We split the profit 30-70 percent with the companies," he continued.

The head of parking task implementer unit (UPT) Sunardi Sinaga explains how in the following 7 days, drivers can still pay parking fees using cash. However, the following weeks after that, drivers will be encouraged to pay electronically.

The payment method remains the same with drivers required to put in the plate number and then press the button to pay the parking ticket where they will have to tab their electronic card to the provided box.

"They can no longer use coins. Well during the first week they can as they have to adapt with the transition," Sunardi said.

This newly established electronic card can be found around the area where the parking machines are established. It costs Rp 40 thousand, with Rp 20 thousand as the price of the card and the other Rp 20 thousand as the minimum balance inside the card. This is of course to help drivers make easier payment whenever they park anywhere in the Jakarta area. The machines will offer a top up option so that drivers can easily refill some money to the card.

"Banks will sell it to the people who are responsible to monitor the parking ticket machine. We have requested for the bank to facilitate a top up machine as well," Sunardi explained.

Similar to what Ahok has said, Sunardi also informed how the implementation of the parking ticket machine will be done elsewhere. For example, Kelapa Gading area in North Jakarta, Falatehan at Jakarta Selatan, Jalan Pintu at West Jakarta, and Jalan Balai Pustaka at East Jakarta.

"More than 380 streets will be using this ticket machine. We will prepare a document for the auction, for each street we will provide one example," Sunardi continued.

The local government is working with 6 banks which include Bank DKI, BNI, Bank Mandiri, Bank Mega, BRI and BCA as to the establishment of the elctronic payment machine. This system is one of the programs meant to lessen the less cash transaction in the parking sector.

The launching of this electronic payment parking machine was also attended by the Swedian Ambassador Ewa Polano and the CEO og Bank Indonesia Agus Martowardojo. (Akp/Tnt)
