Liputan6.com, Jakarta One among many strategies to combat corruption is for the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to regularly monitor the wealth and possessions of the statesmen or those who work in the government. This is what KPK has been trying to do. However, it has been learned that there are still a number of politicians from the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) who have not reported their wealth (LHKPN) and possessions yet to the authority.

It is very unfortunate to know that many politicians, who are given the responsibility to be the desirable role models to the population in general, refuse or 'continually' forget or postpone their endeavour to report their wealth to KPK especially when they know such report is mandatory. And with them refusing to report it, it will create pejorative speculations leading to corruption.

The confirmation regarding the aforementioned issue can be seen from the KPK website acch.kpk.go.id on Monday 16 March 2015. In the website it can be seen that statesmen from Jakarta DPRD such as Abraham ‘Lulung’ Lunggana, Muhammad Taufik, Triwisaksono, Ferial Sofyan, Syahrial, Asraf Ali, Ongen Sangaji and Fahmi Zulfikar have not reported their wealth as it is not in the KPK database.

All politicians are required and obliged to report their wealth (LHKPN). It is mandatory for them to inform the government as to what they have because the one of the pillars of democracy is transparency and without it, the nation will not just be financially corrupt but also morally corrupt. The Indonesian law has already and clearly stated in the Act Number 28 year of 1999 about the Nation’s managing individuals (authority, statesmen, etc) and how they have to be freed from corruption, collusion and nepotism.

It is also clearly stated in the Act number 30 year of 2002 regarding the commission to combat corruption as well as the commission decision to put them in jail with the number of KEP.07/KPK/02/2005. It is very undesirable to see that many politicians still think they can get a way with such law.

"DPRD DKI should report their wealth otherwise it will create suspicion. If not it shows that they like to procrastinate and that's not what politicians should be like," the current Chairman of KPK Johan Budi SP said at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (16/03/2015).

He compares DPRD DKI with DPR and according to him DPR in Senayan statesmen have already reported their wealth. Those are the kind of politicians who show good deeds and apply transparency to the society. As for DPRD DKI such as Haji Lulung and his colleagues, they have not yet reported and this surely raises suspicion and negative speculations.

"It is mandatory for DPR to report their wealth and the ones in Senayan, well most of them have reported it. I sincerely appreciate their transparent and sincere gesture. As for Lulung and his colleagues, I suggest that they report it soon because their images will become bad sooner or later should they fail to comply with the law and do not abide the rules. After all it is the law, they knew it the moment they became politicians, it is their duty to remember and know," Johan concluded. (Akp/Ein)
