Liputan6.com, London Kesedihan merupakan sumber inspirasi utama Sam Smith dalam menulis lagu. Seperti lagu Stay With Me yang diakuinya merupakan kisah patah hatinya terhadap seseorang.
Namun, seiring kesuksesan album In The Lonely Hour, yang tentunya membawa kebahagian bagi Sam, banyak pihak beranggapan bahwa penyanyi berkarakter suara soul tersebut tak kan lagi mampu menulis lagu bagus (sedih).
"Aku manggung di Madison Square pada Januari, gila. Aku selalu menulis lagu. Karena `In The Lonely Hour` begitu sukses, orang berkata kalau aku tak kan bisa menangkap mood yang sama lagi," ungkap Sam seperti dilansir TV3.ie, belum lama.
"Aku selalu ada cara untuk sedih, itulah diriku," tambahnya.
Sebelumnya, Sam juga terang-terangan berujar bahwa ia sukses karena patah hati.
"Label rekamanku seperti bilang 'kita butuh album baru'. Jadi aku seperti 'OK, mari makan malam, dan buat aku patah hati,'" ungkapnya.
"Sedih memikirkannya kembali, tapi itu seperti proses penyembuhan untukku. Kurasa aku terlalu memaksakan diri untuk jatuh cinta daripada menulis musik," tambah Sam Smith.
